Network Controls and Electric to lay high-tech groundwork for new engineering-focused Whittenberg Elementary

(GREENVILLE, SC) MARCH 05, 2010 – Network Controls & Electric, Inc., one of the Carolina’s leading providers of high-quality, single-source design installation and maintenance of communication networks and electrical infrastructure, is laying the groundwork for one of Greenville County’s most high-tech schools.

Network Controls & Electric is building the 100,000-foot, cabling infrastructure for the new A.J. Whittenberg Elementary School on downtown Greenville’s rapidly developing Westside. Whittenberg Elementary, a $19 million, 88,232-square-foot facility, will be focused on engineering development and application. The cabling enables high-speed transmissions of voice, data and video and can be used for security infrastructure.

According to the Greenville County Schools, A.J. Whittenberg Elementary will have an engineering focus with various hands-on learning experiences and computer software for students to design and develop products. The school facility, itself, will serve as a learning laboratory with engineering labs visible from the interior and exterior, a “green” roof to study its benefits, and solar energy panels to study how the sun generates electricity.

The school, being constructed by Harper Construction Company, is the last of 70 Schools built as part of BEST Long Range Facilities Plan of Greenville County Schools.

Whittenberg Elementary School will be adjacent to the Salvation Army’s Kroc Center and is considered a keystone in the development of downtown Greenville’s Westside. Greenville County Schools said the school will partner with the Salvation Army to share resources and to build a school to meet the needs of the community.
